History of Colonial Fox Hounds Hunt

Colonial Fox Hounds Hunt was founded in 1997 as a private subscription pack owned by Michele Schultz, MFH. Our first kennels were built and hound walking began in the summer of 1997 with other recognized hunts donating hounds to provide the foundation for our pack.  The MFH began a breeding and training program, developing a pack suited for hunting out tidewater terrain.

In 2001 Colonial Fox Hounds Hunt was granted registered status with MFHA, our first Foxhunter Camp was held on August of 2002.  During the year we offer introduce young riders, and not so young to the fascinating sport of hunting with hounds on horseback.

MFH Michele Schultz is adamant in supporting the sport through introduction and education. We encourage juniors and newcomers to be a part of the future of fox hunting.  Colonial Fox Hounds Hunt welcomes guests to hunt with us, offering a First Flight for experienced riders and a Second Flight for those who prefer a slower pace, or are bringing along green horses.  We occasionally host a Third Flight sometimes referred to as the "Sip & Trip" Flight for riders who want to experience the comradeship of foxhunting at a quieter walk/trot pace.  Although we follow all the timeless, formal traditions of foxhunting, weekday hunts are informal to encourage interest and participation.

The hounds are hunted by MFH Michele Schultz, who oversees all the daily activities at the kennels as well as training.  Selective breeding continues, with new entries being introduced into the pack every year.  We hunt fixtures in New Kent County and also the counties of King William, King & Queen and eastern Hanover.
